A huge congratulations to the 4th year students at Deakin University who submitted their theses yesterday. Conducting a literature search, generating your own hypotheses, learning how to analyse statistics in R, and writing up an entire thesis within a single year, is a challenging prospect at the best of times.

When we think about open science, the term “Qualitative Research” is not exactly the first thing comes to mind. But could this lack of focus on qualitative methods reflect some important gaps in the open science movement?

A huge congratulations to all of our billiant 2021 4th year students, who overcame lockdowns, technical issues on Zoom, and a whole bunch of nerves, to completely ace their research project presentations last week!

Josh Rhee (not to be confused with youngest lab member: baby Josh) joined the lab earlier this month as a new Associate Research Fellow.

We are extremely excited to announce that our July Seminar Series speaker will be Ben Grodeck who is a PhD student specializing in Experimental and Behavioural Economics. Ben’s talk will be entitled Demanding the Morally Demanding: Experimental Evidence from Charitable Giving.

In our May 2021 series talk, we were joined by the brilliant Christina Van Heer (aka CVH). Chris gave a talk on how her research has applied mathematical modelling to make sense of the way people update their predictions in changing environments.

The Misinformation Lab kicked off our 2021 seminar series in April with an outstanding talk from friend-of-the-lab Dr Morgana Lizzio-Wilson [@dr_morganalw]. Dr Lizzio-Wilson was previously a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Queensland with Dr Winnifred Louis and has now joined Flinders University as a post-doctoral fellow with Dr Emma Thomas.

The Misinformation Lab had our first lab meeting of 2021 today and we were thrilled (as always) to meet our newest lab members. Our current students (and the projects they’ll be working on) are listed on the main page of our website.

We’re thrilled that today is Emily Kothe’s first day back in the lab after having 2020 off for parental leave. It might be a while before we can have an in-person lab meeting but it’s still nice to have Emily back with us

The good news keeps on rolling, we’re thrilled that Matt Mackay offered a PhD candidature and scholarship at Deakin, starting at the end of March, 2021. Matt was a fourth year student in the lab in 2019.
